Psychology services for cognitive assessment, rehabilitation & brain health support

Welcome

I'm Rory Fischer, a registered psychologist with a special interest in cognition and the brain. At Sunshine Coast Cognitive Health, I help both adults and children understand their cognitive strengths and difficulties, support recovery after injury or illness, and take practical, evidence-based proactive steps to look after their brain health as they age.

Whether you're seeking answers about a diagnosis, recovering from a brain injury or stroke, noticing changes in your cognitive ability such as memory, language, attention, processing speed and problem solving, or simply want to look after your long-term brain health, I offer a clear, personalised, and unhurried approach.

How can I help?

My work spans three connected areas of care. Understanding how your mind is working (cognitive assessment), supporting you to manage cognitive changes (cognitive rehabilitation), and helping you look after your cognition as you age (brain health support).

Cognitive assessment

A thorough evaluation of how your mind is working. Measuring domains of memory, attention, visual spatial ability, fluid reasoning, processing speed, executive functioning, language, and more. Assessments can clarify your cognitive profile and be used to make or support the diagnosis of conditions such as intellectual disability, specific learning disorders, acquired brain injury, and dementia.

Cognitive rehabilitation

Practical, personalised support for living well with cognitive difficulties. Centred on strategies to retrain and compensate around cognitive problems such as memory, language, problem solving, processing speed, or attention in everyday life, alongside psychological support and working towards the goals that matter to you. This work also often draws on the same brain-health and lifestyle approaches used in prevention.

Brain health support

A forward-looking program focused on the modifiable lifestyle factors linked to improving and maintaining long-term brain health. Helping you build cognitive reserve and address areas of risk and opportunity through structured, supported, and achievable change.

Why work with me?

A focus on cognition

My work centres specifically on cognition and the brain. I hold a Master's in Professional Psychology and a Master of Science in Neuropsychology, and my research and clinical experience spans acquired brain injuries, mild cognitive impairment, dementia, and healthy brain ageing.

Adults and children

I assess and support people across the lifespan, from children with developmental and learning concerns, to older adults navigating memory change.

No referral needed

I welcome private clients with no referral, NDIS participants, people referred by their GP or other medical specialists, as well as from other allied health professionals.

International experience

I've worked clinically and conducted research across public, private, and university settings in Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands, which keeps my practice grounded in current international research and best-practice methods.
